No, He’s Not Hitler. He’s His Own Budding Despot.
Jeffrey Dahmer was not Charles Manson despite being a murderer. Adolf Hitler was not Andrew Jackson, though both were genocidal supremacists. Leopold II, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Benjamin Netanyahu, Richard Nixon, and others in Uganda, Sudan, Rwanda, Myanmar, Europe, and on and on grace lists of the most horrible, genocidal men in history.
While exhibiting the traits and behaviors of these predecessors, Donald J. Trump is a unique threat. I want to impress upon all of you who seek to equate him to Hitler, et.al., that the very base of his support who will be key in restoring our union thrive on sensationalist speech and imagery. That is one of the methods used by the MAGA rise to power.
The tactics being used by the current administration are not new. Many may be justifiably compared to those of Hitler, Mussolini, and preceding populist, nationalist idealogues. However, the threat posed by the current head of the United States is novel, unique, and only mitigated as an existential threat to our democracy by the sensationalism used in comparing him to the worst, most violent and murderous world leaders in history.
His supporters feast on the criticism from the so-called left. These criticisms just serve to strengthen their belief in their dear leader. If we are to restore unity to this nation we must realize and…
